Days Gone

If you liked DayZ but always thought the game felt empty because of the lack of a streamlined story and arcs, then Days Gone is the game for you. The game is a story mode game and offers an intense story with many interesting and relatable characters. Just like DayZ, the game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world.

Plus the game can’t be any more relatable to this generation of gamers. Unfortunately, unlike us, they couldn’t cure their problems and now live in a world where every living being fights for survival! Because the event which made the world a desolate land in Days Gone is a worldwide pandemic.

Project Zomboid

After a story-driven game, we come back to the basic DayZ formula, a zombie game where you can forge your own path and tell your own stories. Project Zomboid is one of the best zombie RPGs out there; the game is exciting to play and has many excellent mechanics that work together to create a realistic world.

You have to survive in the suburbs, where every house is ransacked by zombies and nonzombies. NPCs can either make you an ally or kill you on sight. The game is really dark as you are scavenging for basic necessities while zombies come for your life; the struggle is real in Project Zomboid.

Fallout 76

Fallout 76 is very much like DayZ, you live in a post-apocalyptic world where ungodly creatures roam the earth now, and they are ready to pounce on you and have your flesh for dinner. The game is ruthless, and the multiplayer aspect is not the main focus of the story if you don’t want to.

You can go playing solo without seeing any human for days, which makes the encounter meaningful. Fallout is one of the best games in this genre, so you won’t be disappointed.

State of Decay 2

State of decay 2 is a greta game. If you are into strategy games, the game will make sure you use all your brain cells when trying to stay alive. You see, unlike other games on this list where our character is the lone wolf and does extraordinary things on his own, State of decay has tasked you with maintaining a healthy group of people, and most importantly, keeping them alive.

The game is almost a simulation game but with a lot of action. You have to create a perfect balance, if you have a lot of people in your group, you’ll beat zombies faster, but if there are too many people, you’ll have to make trips more often in search of food. So play smartly!

You are tasked with surviving in a wretched world that wants you to die on every step you take. You have to create a safe haven for yourself and survive. Are you up for the job?

Rust

Ever thought about how much nutrients human flesh can give you? Then start thinking about it because you’ll be chopping arms and cooking humans in Rust for food. Rust is a sandbox PvP survival game which is one of the best games on this list.

The game will spawn a player naked, anywhere on the map. Then just like Minecraft, you have to gather resources and craft tools and build bases so that you can kill other survivors i.e, other players in the game. And don’t let cannibalism stop you; believe me, the game is a masterpiece!

After DayZ, the most popular survival game is 7 days to die. The game leaves you in a post-apocalyptic world that is infested with zombies. Your goal is to gather as much loot as possible before nightfall and build enough defenses so that the zombies don’t eat your brains for dinner.

The crafting mechanics are unlike any other game; fundamental laws of physics are at play here, so don’t think you can just build a single block tower and stand on it till morning. Plus, it has a lot of cool weapons and vehicles and places to explore so that you never get bored of playing it!

Unlike other games where you’re struggling to survive and are vulnerable all the time, Hunt Showdown is an outlet for all your store dup rage. The game focuses on your character, a bounty hunter, so he goes out of his way to kill monsters.

Yes, you are sometimes overpowered by these beasts. Still, the satisfaction you get when these monsters go down is just something you’ll never forget and will want to relive again and again. The action is good, the characters are interesting, it is a complete package!
